Sleeping Beauty...?
Maya looks so gorgeous when she sleeps...if only she would sleep so well at night. In the last few days, she's taken to waking every 2 hours again (ugh!). I am wondering if she is starting to have some movement in the teeth department?? She has started chewing constantly on her fingers towards the lower right side of her mouth, and seems to wake up grizzly at night. Last night she woke twice before midnight! Needless to say, I can't wait until she sleeps through, or even waking once a night is manageable. Of course, Maya seems happy with everything and still sleeps well during the day - quite unaware of the exhausted state of her parents!
Maya's First Holiday

We just returned yesterday from a drive to Sydney - Maya's first big trip! Noah had some work in Sydney, so we decided to make a week-long family trip out of it. We put the baby seat in the hire car and off we went. Maya was easy to travel with, as she slept most of the way there and back - only grumbling and crying a little towards the end of the day. Of course we did need to stop every 2-3 hours for feeds and nappy changes, and some caffeine for us, so we did the drive over 2 days instead of 1.
The trip was also good for me, as we stayed on Oxford Street so while Noah was working I hit the shops and bookstores. Maya has become quite the 'cafe baby' - she loves to eat out with us and see what's going on around her (if she's not sleeping, that is). She can't quite drink baby-cinos yet, but is on the way. Maya also had a few more 'firsts' on this trip - she actually laughed for the first time: a real hearty chuckle. She also had her first ride in a pram. The hotel had one for use, so I wheeled her around the city one afternoon - she seemed to like it as she just slept the whole way. Until now, we've been carrying her in the baby pouch.
The pictures here aren't of Sydney, but of the magnificent Wollomombi Gorge which we stopped at on the drive home yesterday.
It's good to be home - the city is fun, but I wouldn't want to live there!
New Hat
This colourful beanie was made especially for Maya by a friend's sister, who has just been at a hat-making workshop in Alice Springs (Maya's head had been measured in advance!).Hard to believe that Maya will be 12 weeks old this coming Friday. Last night she had a breakthrough as far as night-sleeping is concerned; she slept from 9.30pm to 4.30am without waking for a feed!! This may be a one-off, but I'm hoping it's not and will continue for a little while at least. Of course, I still managed to wake every 3 hours, out of habit, but somehow feel more rested today than I've felt in months. We have also resumed work on our rammed earth house again, after quite a long break. While the walls and roof are done, there is still a lot to do, so we keep chipping away at it during the afternoons. We bring Maya's bouncing chair up there and she coos away happily or naps while we work - I think she likes her new home. We are hoping to move up the top of the hill sometime this year!
