5 Weeks Old
Maya is liking her baths more - now that we've got the temperature thing worked out a little better! I think I made it a few degrees too hot a couple of times and it didn't go down too well with her. Today must have been perfect temperature, because she was loving her bath. I practiced some leg massage with her out in the sun afterwards. She was very relaxed and then fell asleep easily ... and has stayed asleep for hours today!Maya and I were sad to miss the Thomson reunion in Seattle last week, but lots of phone calls helped. Grandma Thomson was there from Townsville - and she must have been thrilled to have all 5 of her children together in the one place for the first time in a long while. It seems everyone was there - Mom, Roberto, all my uncles, aunts, great aunt, sister, brother in law and nephew, and lots of cousins. I think Melissa, Aaron, Sue and I were the only ones not in attendance. Oh well, Maya will have to meet all of her family next year when we go over to the States. If only it could be sooner....sigh.
New Friends
Last week Maya met her new friend, Leroy, who is 9 weeks old. Maya and Leroy did their ante-natal classes together (in utero). Leroy's parents Michelle and Booker, and Noah and I, attended Jillian's natural birth classes earlier this year. Finally, the two bubs got to meet, and as you can see, they were thrilled and had lots to say to one another! (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz) It's exhausting being newborns...Maya was one month old yesterday. In the last two days she has suddenly become quite alert, and is looking at people in new ways - as though she is noticing they actually exist. Lots of staring, and even a few smiles. Maya and I started a baby massage course yesterday, which will run each Friday for 5 weeks. A woman in the Nimbin area needs 5 'guinea pigs' (babies) to practice on for her infant massage certificate. A nice excuse to get out of the house, network with some other new mothers and babes, and learn some relaxation techniques (not just for Maya, either). I am also hoping that the massage might help with Maya's new early evening crying bouts, which usually last around 2 hours, and which started about a week ago. She obviously needs to let some tension out, I think!

This is what our clothesline looks like now on most days of the week. We're not using disposables, as you might have guessed. Less for the landfill, but means more washing. It's actually nice to hang the nappies out on a bright sunny day as it moves into winter.
Also, another photo of Maya today, at 3 weeks. She'd just had a bath and was happily hanging out by the fire with her Daddy.
2 Weeks Old

I've been a little slow in getting back to the blog, as you may have noticed - but don't give up too soon. Somehow another week has past since I last posted, but our lives have been consumed with feeding, sleeping (or at least trying to, since Maya feeds every 2-3 hours around the clock!), nappy changing and washing (Noah is great at this) and trying to eat something ourselves. Maya was 2 weeks old yesterday - seems a small milestone in time but a big deal for us. She is definitely changing and growing every day. Jillian, our midwife, made her last visit to us yesterday, and weighed the babe. Maya had gained 650grams, so is now almost 4 kg! According to Jillian, Maya has probably taken the prize for greatest weight gain of all the babies being born around here at the moment. Here I was thinking that I wasn't feeding long enough, and she's getting chubbier and healthier by the minute. Until next post....
